Monet painting at Christie's auction went to a record low

Cloth Monet's "On the meadow," written in 1876, was the top lot at the auction held the day before "The Art of Impressionism and modernism," the auction house Christie's. However, a unique picture sold for only 11 million pounds, while its estimated value was 15 million pounds, reports .

In turn, a rare double portrait painted by the Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920), entitled "Two Girls", which was purchased from the artist with the help of his patron and agent for over 90 years ago and has exhibited at the auction for the first time, beat 3,5 -5,5 million pounds and went from bidding for the 6537 million pounds.

Other top auction lots was also painting "dressmaker" French painter Vyuyara (1868-1940) - painting, writing in 1890, when the artist was only 21 years old. Preliminary assessment of the work amounted to 5,5 - 7,5 million pounds, this lot was sold for 5081 million pounds.

All were put up for auction 47 works, including masterpieces of the museum, among them - paintings by Claude Monet, Amedeo Modigliani, Kees van Dongen, Vyuyara and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Furthermore, the exhibited works by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Gauguin and Henry Moore.

Total bid valued at more than 60 million pounds.
